Summary

This new and original research study as part of the Renaissance Market Towns programme, aims to help provide an understanding of the causes of change and how these might influence our rural capitals in the future.

It uses data from real towns to develop scenarios that are applied to fictitious places to test outcomes of different approaches. The report is targeted at policy makers and decision takers, but will also be important to communities generally and to the town teams within the Renaissance Market Towns programme.

The authors hope that the scenarios outlined in this report will help all those involved in the future of our market towns to understand better the potential effects of their decisions and how they need to work with each other to agree how the most effective scenario for a sustainable future might be achieved.
